NYFW: ‘Obsession’, the latest collection by Alexandra Popescu-York

Artist and Fashion Designer Alexandra Popescu-York presents spectacular collections every season at the New York Fashion Week. Recently she revealed ‘Obsession’, a celebration for powerful women.

Artist-designer Alexandra Popescu-York launched the ‘Obsession’ collection during her runway show at New York Fashion Week Powered by Art Hearts Fashion on September 6th, 2019, at Angel Orensanz Foundation, in Manhattan.

She is widely known for bringing together uncommon materials to create monumental art collections that illustrate her prolific imagination.

After collections like ‘Desire’ or ‘Magnetic’, the new line it’s perfect for modern women: refined, elegant and powerful.

New York-based designer is the only fashion designer who presented her collections eleven seasons in a row at New York Couture Fashion Week, followed by Art Hearts Fashion. Both as part of New York Fashion Week.

Having inspired one of this year’s Met Gala fashion designers with the now-famous frame and chandelier head accessories, Alexandra Popescu-York’s creations are unusual, one-of-a-kind or limited edition luxury clothes which appeal to modern women.

“Authenticity is increasingly rare in the world of fashion”, said Alexandra Popescu-York.

And she strives for it every step of the way, often painting directly on the materials or embroideries, or fully altering textures through overlapping.

· Alexandra Popescu-York began developing her skills for art very early when she started painting at the age of three. The Romanian-born became a plastic artist formally trained at the University of Arts in Bucharest and then settled in the United States of America over a decade ago.

· She is the only designer in the world who has presented artworks of different categories at the same show, at the same time: a collection of fashion couture and a painting exhibition.

· She has created dresses without side-seams and with hundreds of stitches, admitting that she rarely uses the classical patterns unless they are needed.

· Beside her fashion awards and recognitions, her paintings have been included in the Art Exhibition at the 70th Anniversary of the United Nations, at UN Headquarters in New York.
