Designer Alexandra Popescu-York decided to bring New York Fashion Week on the streets of New York, with the beautiful Manhattan view and dresses from her collection.
Also, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced NYFW with limited or no spectators. This year’s New York Fashion Week edition will feature a mix of live and virtual fashion shows, presentations, and programming including live-streamed runway shows, exclusive designer-related content and cultural programming.
- Covid-19 pandemic made 2020 a year exceedingly difficult for the fashion industry. Now, designers and creative teams are struggling to find better ways of doing what they know best.
- New York Fashion Week, scheduled for September 13-17, 2020, will be featuring live and virtual programming in strict compliance with New York State Health and Safety Guidelines.
- Outdoor events are limited to 50 persons and indoor events at 50 percent capacity and no spectators.

Beginning of September used to be for fashion designer Alexandra Popescu-York a hectic time of the year. With a regular presence at the New York Fashion Week, the beginning of the fall meant rehearsals for her shows, and a lot of things happening at one time. This is how NYFW unfolded for the New-York based artist in the past several editions every February and September.

Alexandra Popescu-York is the only international fashion designer who presented her collections twelve seasons in a row at New York Couture Fashion Week, followed by Art Hearts Fashion. Her designs were featured in VOGUE, Bazaar, ELLE or L’OFFICIEL magazine.
Alexandra Popescu-York: “This year New York Fashion Week is different, it almost doesn’t exist, but we (note: the fashion designer and her team) will keep it going in a non-classic way, with photoshoots and a catwalk on the beautiful streets of New York City.
2020 it’s a very challenging year, but we have to keep a positive mindset. There are so many people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the economy as well. It’s not a very good environment for fashion, tourism and business. What we can do is keep our minds and hearts open, stay strong, do your projects and stay safe!
Things have changed, we are changing too, and we are changing the way we are doing fashion shows. At least for now.
I am not up for doing runway shows this season. I believe I have to take a break from that. I will use this time to learning more ways to express fashion. I will do many individual photoshoots, I am going to stream online, and I am going to work with different teams of creatives.
I spent many days thinking of new ways of doing my collections, thinking of new ways of doing fashion shows, promoting them and meeting my customers. I didn’t get to any conclusion yet. It’s a work in progress, but I hope for the best. So, I took a step back, rethink everything, and I’m hoping the best in finding better ways to express my identity as a fashion brand”, concluded Alexandra Popescu-York.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced NYFW with limited or no spectators: “The pandemic is far from over”
“New York City is the fashion capital of the world and New York Fashion Week celebrates the ingenuity of this city and our unmatched creative talent,” Governor Andrew Cuomo said. “When COVID-19 hit New York, so many of our cherished events were forced to cancel or be postponed. The pandemic is far from over, but we’re proud to support event organizer IMG in moving forward with NYFW. Safety, as always, is our top priority, and we commend the hosts, and all participating designers, for their innovative, New York Smart solutions to bring this event to life.”
New York Fashion Week will operate in full compliance with the existing State Department of Health’s issued standards for public health and safety during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
